Species extinction
According to estimations made by various authors the global extinction rates
of species are:
- ca. 2,000 plant
species per year in the tropics - a global loss per decade of 8% (Raven, 1987),
- ca. 25% of all
species between 1985 and 2015 - a global loss per decade of 9% (Raven, 1988),
- at least 7%
of plant species (Myers 1988),
- 0.2 to 0.3%
of all species per year (Wilson 1988),
- 5 to 15% of
forest species by the year 2020 (Reis
& Miller 1989),
- 2 to 18% of
all species between 1990 and 2015,
- 3 to 130 species
daily (Wiss. Beirat d. Bundesregierung, 1995).
