National legislation

All countries have formal legal systems and nearly all have legislation, policies and legal pro-cedures that govern the protection, use and management of natural resources, including living resources. These measures vary widely among countries and often within countries where jurisdiction or authority over natural resources are shared with state/provincial and local governments. There are, however, broad categories of regulatory and non-regulatory legal measures to support the sustainable use and protection of biodiversity.
