Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters

Public participation in discussion on planned projects is widely applied in Europe and Central Asia, and also all over the world. However, public participation in the development of policy and acceptance of the legal regulations is not yet customary in the majority of countries. These forms of participation are registered in the other basic document - "The Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters " in more details.

The convention records a system of principles and positions relating the rights of the citizens on:

• Access of a public to environmental information, which is at the disposal of government and private enterprises.
• Public participation in decision-making on the important environmental solutions by government, both on lowest, and at heights levels.
• Right of a public to apply to the court, if the government doesnot execute the obligations on these problems.
