OVERALL RESULTS OF THE 6th SMALL
GRANTS COMPETITION
FOR RUSSIAN RESERVES AND NATIONAL PARKS
On April 28, 2004 the 6th small grant competition for Russian reserves
and national parks was held. This annual competition, which has been previously conducted by the National Parks Foundation, is currently organized within the framework of the WWF Project on Russian Reserves and National Parks.
More than 60 applications by Russian reserves and national parks were submitted for the competition. The main competition nominations were as follows: "Protection of reserves and national parks' territories", "Ecological education", "Ecological tourism development". All applications submitted were examined by an expert committee consisting of leading Russian conservation experts. At the end of the competition 7 applications were approved:
Baikalsky biosphere reserve; project “Ethnos town at the Baikal shore”;
Bogdinsko-Baskunchaksky reserve; project “Equipment purchase for
the protection of the reserve's territory”;
Dsherginsky reserve; project “Wild nature”;
Pinezhsky reserve; project “The Rdeysky reserve anniversary
or the continuation of the plastic epic”;
Kenozersky national park; project “Craft circle” — revival of the
Kenozersk fairs and the pottery;
Samarskaya Luka national park; project “Spreading successful practical
experience in 'Friends of the reserve islands' network development and local
residents involvement in public support of protected areas' activities".
